Sex, Lies and ‘Ol Time Religion

Don’t tell me Sex, Lies, and Money ain’t at the root of this situation. Many say she’s yet another money hungry, fake, bible thumper spreading lies to the emotionally weak while counting the coins. One must ask why she didn’t take her own advice. Oh, obviously, her advice is only good in theory – not practice. Ok, help me out. Was this hotel meeting and beat-down spawned over money? Honestly, it sounds like a deal with the devil gone wrong. After – only – five years of holy marriage, Weeks is accused of choking and stomping his wife; now, that’s some suppressed deep hatred. Did Bynum not know her husbands ability to batter/kill before saying I Do – or did she?
It’s reported that Bishop Weeks walked away from Bynum but she persisted and he unleashed his rage. What did she say or do to cause a man of God to attempt murder? Were they living a lie? “As a young girl, I dreamed of having a beautiful wedding,” Bynum said. And it was a grand affair: the wedding of Dr. Juanita Bynum, evangelist and author of the best-selling Matters of the Heart, to Bishop Thomas W. Weeks III in 2002 cost over one million bucks, Bynaum said, with a 80 person wedding party and 1,000 guests, a orchestra, flown-in flowers a 7.76-carat diamond ring, a 50foot train. flowers flown in from around the world.
“The problem, from the individual’s standpoint is that they can’t afford to go to anyone and say, ‘I need help with this problem,’ because then it would ruin this image that has been created. In every major ministry that we’ve investigated over the last 20 years, they have no accountability. Some of these places are snake pits of sexual misconduct. It’s because there is no transparency on the part of the leaders,” said Ole Anthony, President, Trinity Foundation.
According to Voices, Bynum’s ministry blossomed further after her ‘No More Sheets’ sermon on breaking free of sexual promiscuity at a singles event. But many question remain for those followers who are victims of the greed, manipulation and/or sexual depravity that often accompanies a minister’s meteoric rise to fame. With no system of checks and balances in place, and no standard of accountability for religious leaders to be held to, believers are many times left with nothing but their faith to sustain them.
The AJC reported, “The husband of popular national evangelist Juanita Bynum has been charged with felony aggravated assault and making terrorist threats after he allegedly struck and choked his wife in a hotel parking lot.
A spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department said the suspect, Thomas W. Weeks, a bishop, who shares an international ministry with his wife, had not been taken into custody Thursday afternoon.
Bynum and Weeks are co-pastors for Global Destiny International Center, which includes a church in Duluth, They were married in 2002 and had apparently separated, but were attempting to reconcile their marriage before the dispute occurred early Wednesday.
The couple arranged a meeting at the Renaissance Concourse Hotel near Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to try to work things out. Their meeting turned violent as they walked out to the parking lot about 4 a.m.Choking and kicking
Police said a bellman had to pull Weeks away from his wife.
“He began to choke her, he pushed her down and started kicking on her and stomping her,” officer Ronald Campbell said.
A popular Pentecostal evangelist, Bynum lives in the metro Atlanta area as well as in Hempstead, N.Y., but her administrative offices are in Waycross in southeast Georgia.”
