LADONNA HUGHLEY AND FRIENDS

Unequivocally, DL Hughley receives my Ig’nant choice award.
Talk about double standards: where is the outcry. I just became aware of this incident today. Hmmm.. makes we wonder if most black bloggers skipped, ignored or unaware of this. First, if Hughley had made comments about Jews, Gays, Muslims, etc.. it would be a hate crime, but talk about Blacks – oh, that’s free speech.

Anyway, obviously, Hughley is experiencing a career slump and desperate, therefore, maybe trying to widen the whitening of his fan base. . I’m urked when folks display patriarchal, sexist, bull.

It’s rare I side with ministers; however, on this issue we can work together. DL Hughley’s comments on Jay Leno reference Rutger’s women had protesters, black minister, outside Hughley’s Juneteenth show on June 16 in Fort Worth, Texas. But Hughley supporter former Dallas Cowboy Dion Sanders – now Rev. Sanders – opposed his fellow clergy protest.

Al Sharpton responded, “It is sad that after a very successful career in comedy, Mr. Hughley would stoop to behavior that is disrespectful to women as a means of self promotion. We hope that the entertainment industry will see through this feeble attempt to gain publicity in order to find his next job.”

Eddie Griffin said, “Somewhere, in his life, his parents should have taught him how to respect other people, especially women. His foul language has become so commonplace that many people believe that it is accepted in the African-American community. Young black boys, following in his footsteps, assail their teachers with demeaning slurs, as if the only women in the world are “bitches and whores”. They know no better because they see no better, not coming from a would-be successful entertainers like Hughley. The bottom line is Freedom of Speech can sometimes land a person in the unemployment line with Imus- which is where Mr. Hughley needs to be also.”

Before I succinctly address this issue, I firmly believe that any person with a platform: a microphone that airs to the masses has a responsibility to use it to report, educate, inform, etc.. Comedic or not, if in doubt, go back to what ya mama said, “if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything.” Comedy has perimeters– believe it or not.

Why “ugly” Hughley? Maybe, he, like most Blacks we’re conditioned through media and reinforced by our own folks that we are ugly. Also, ugly is such an immature word. Nevertheless, it’s has a negative affect on the psyche – just talk to most Black folk.

Considering his recent HBO special Unpologetic, maybe this is all about money. Hughley commented on Michael Richards, Mel Gibson, Tim Hardaway, and Isiah Washington, “I believe they were probably wrong.” So, is he saying that his statement was probably right or probably wrong? Evidence why he’s the recipient of the Ig’nant award!

One Response to ““ugliest women I ever seen” – DL Hughley”

  1. We are doing our best to call attention to this. The Ft. Worth Protest is the first time he has been forced to address the issue. He is in New York next month so hopefully something will happen there to catch people’s attention/ We’ve been reporting on it for two months.
